If you end up melting your carpet you will have more to worry about than a little wax spilled on it. Cover the spill with the paper towel or bag and rub the warm iron over it.

Get any remaining bits of wax or dye stains out of the rug with a commercial cleaning solution or rubbing alcohol. Now onto the carpet cleaning. The longer you wait the harder it will be to clean the wax stain. Place a piece of the brown paper bag over the candle wax spill.

Blot with a clean white cloth. There is probably still some remaining wax that has now melted so scrape it away with the dull edge of the knife. Start by placing a plastic bag of ice or an ice pack on top of the spot.
