Clean Clogged Gutters

After the gutters are clean and the water used for flushing isn t draining quickly check the downspout for clogs and any lodged debris.

If you haven t cleaned your gutters yet do this first finishing with unclogging the downspout. Remove and clean it.

Problems caused by clogged or broken gutters are expensive to fix but easy to prevent. Clean the gutters. Remove all the accumulated debris in the gutter. Why gutters need cleaning.

Turn the hose on and spray down the spout. Climb a sturdy ladder with the end of a garden hose in one hand. Keep your body upright and reach only as far as you can without leaning away from the ladder. If the cage is in good shape firmly re seat it into the downspout hole.

If the clog is caused by loose hangers or spikes. When you reach the top opening of the downspout ask a helper down below to turn on the water. Feed the hose up the downspout from the ground. If the amount of water coming out is less than what is going in there is a blockage.

Clean debris from clogs. Use your chosen method scoop and drop bucket or bag to scoop out leaves and debris from the gutters. Your ladder should be sturdy safe and large enough for the job. If the cage is damaged or missing replacement screens cost just a few bucks.

If water flows out of the bottom carrying leaf debris with it your job is complete.
